The Chau Van singing contest in Phu Day Festival this year is held at Phu Tien Huong and Phu Van Cat. This is the space for the beauty of Chau Van singing to be displayed and spread to visitors from all over the world and for Chau Van singing to be closer to the community. The venues for Chau Van singing contest in Phu Day Festival all attract the attention of visitors and are considered an indispensable cultural activity in the Festival program.
This year, the Phu Day festival has 9 cung van participating in singing at Phu Tien Huong and 8 cung van participating in singing at Phu Van Cat. With 17 singing performances such as: Co be, Co doi, Chau De nhi, cham be Bac Le, Chua Dong Cuong, Van Cong Dong, Chau Ba De tu, Chau than van mau, Quan Hoang Muoi... performed by the contestants through smooth voices, along with the sound of the zither, the sound of the clapper, sometimes low, sometimes high, has attracted visitors from all over the country to the festival.
At the same time, it retells stories and ancient legends about gods and saints that have been historicized and worshiped as people who have contributed to their homeland and country, containing the passionate patriotism of the Vietnamese people.
Therefore, the Chau Van ritual carries a noble spiritual and cultural value, which is the cultural quintessence distilled throughout history, a symbol of community strength, of the creativity and continuous development of the Vietnamese people. With that noble meaning, the Chau Van singing art festival is an important and indispensable content in the Phu Day Festival.
As one of the actors and musicians participating in the 2023 Chau Van Festival, Mr. Tran Xuan Thuan shared with us: “Today, my brothers and sisters at Phu Chinh Tien Huong participated in 3 performances: Co Be, Co Doi, Chau De Nhi. Every year when we participate like this, we will be able to interact with the Van singing brothers from all regions. And I hope that the younger generation will follow in the footsteps of our uncles and aunts to preserve the beautiful spiritual culture.”
Nowadays, the melodies of Hat Van are not only performed in sacred temples, shrines and shrines to serve spiritual beliefs but are also performed on modern stages in the form of folk music. Hat Van music with its lively, bustling characteristics and the bustling sounds of drums, clappers and cymbals has the power to spread in life, meeting the people's need to enjoy cultural and artistic culture.
The new lyrics of the songs have cheerful and pure melodies, distilled from the traditional art of singing with the breath and rhythm of contemporary life, with content praising the homeland and encouraging the people in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. Therefore, the Chau Van singing festival at Tien Huong Palace and Van Cat Palace is one of the activities that always attracts thousands of visitors from all over the country to the Festival and everyone wants to enjoy the Chau Van singing performances of the musicians at the Temples and Palaces.
Having gone through many ups and downs, up to now, the art of singing Chau Van has always kept its pure, rustic Vietnamese soul, but is also very diverse and rich. In fact, the art of singing Chau Van in Vu Ban district has gone beyond religious activities. Therefore, maintaining the organization of the Chau Van singing competition in Phu Day Festival is an opportunity to preserve and develop the art of singing Van in a new way of listening and seeing but still preserving the ancient melodies and ancient performing scenes. That makes the cultural value of this art form of singing Chau Van always be inherited and developed in community life.
